In December 2015, Tamilnadu was declared a disaster zone as incessant, heavy rains and subsequent flooding ravaged Chennai and other parts of the state, killing more than 500 people. It got so bad that the Indian army had to be deployed to rescue thousands of stranded people. The Chennai rains broke a 100-year record and brought life to a standstill.

Widespread damage has been caused displacing nearly 18 lakh people all over the state. Thousands were left homeless in Chennai without the most basic requirements for survival. A number of businesses and non-profit organisations stepped forward to help with relief and rehabilitation efforts.

QNET partnered with the Lions Dist.317 F Service Foundation, Bangalore Chapter, to respond to survivors’ immediate needs.

Items from the Flood Relief Kit

A team of volunteers from QNET comprising employees and independent representations, along with LDSF 317 F (Lions) volunteers and the Inner Wheel Club of Madras set up camp at Meenambakkam in Chennai and organised relief kits for 200 families in the area, affected by the flooding. Relief materials include basic needs such as bed sheets, mats, towels, cooking utensils, and soap among other items.

Additionally, QNET also donated Rs.75 lakhs to the Tamilnadu Chief Minister’s Relief Fund towards rehabilitation efforts at the IIFA Utsavam in Hyderabad under the #Be1ForChennai initiative. The funds will be used for long-term recovery efforts and support for the victims.

All community support projects by QNET in India are implemented under the QNET We Care Initiative in partnership with reputable NGOs and non-profit organisations.
