A Tough Run Of Fixtures Before ChristmasTime To Make-or-break: The Business End Of The Season

Coming off the back of a treble-winning season, Manchester City has established themselves as one of the top teams in world of football. The Cityzens were crowned as the kings of Europe in 2023 after winning their long eluded first UEFA Champions League title. The team stuck together to overtake former assistant coach Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, displaying the consistency and mental fortitude a team needs to become champions of such a competitive league. The Sky Blues set the standard for English top-flight football in the 2022/23 season by winning back-to-back-to-back Premier League titles.

The 2023/24 season’s title defence began with a 3-0 win away at Burnley with an inevitable Erling Haaland brace. However, club captain Kevin De Bruyne suffered a hamstring injury that will likely keep him out until 2024. Going through half of the season without the Belgian magician will be a test of the club’s squad depth and mettle.

The early part of the season has been business as usual save for a few minor setbacks. New signings, injury setbacks, and departing players pose a new challenge to the team. The veterans in the squad like Kyle Walker and Rodri have already stepped up their game, and new faces have a chance to prove their worth. The whole world was witness to Julian Alvarez’s performance at the World Cup, but he has truly come into his own in the 2023/24 season, clutching the game for the Blues on more than one occasion.

The Manchester Derby at the end of October promises to be a feisty affair between the Manchester rivals. Although The Red Devils have had an underwhelming start to their season, they can never be underestimated.

A Tough Run Of Fixtures Before Christmas

The run of fixtures leading up to Christmas will be one of the toughest tests the Cityzens face. The game in November against the new-look Chelsea, their rivals in blue, will be an interesting test for the players to face off against a few familiar faces in Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer. The latter scored City’s equalising goal in the UEFA Super Cup Final, which they went on to win 5-4 on penalties. Guardiola even touted Palmer as having the quality to start in Kevin De Bruyne’s absence, before the club decided to sell him to Chelsea.

The game away at Chelsea will be followed by hosting Merseyside giants, Liverpool, who have arguably been the club’s biggest rivals under Pep. The rivalry and mutual respect between Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp always makes for an entertaining watch with goals galore. The game against Liverpool will be followed by a crucial Champions League match against RB Leipzig, the club Josko Gvardiol used to call home.

The following weekend will see the Sky Blues welcome Tottenham Hotspur, who seem to have a new lease of life under Ange Postecoglou, followed by a visit away to Aston Villa. Man City play their final Champions League group stage game against Red Star Belgrade before they set off to Saudi Arabia in search of more silverware, as they compete against teams from around the globe for the FIFA Club World Cup. The club could very well end up playing 10 games in the month of December.

Time To Make-or-break: The Business End Of The Season

The team will travel to Merseyside to face off against Everton on boxing day, before playing their last game of 2023 against Sheffield United.

2024 kicks off with an away game against Newcastle, which was a 6-goal-thriller that Man City came back from 3-1 behind to draw the game at 3-3. The Cityzens face Everton and host Chelsea in February as the Champions League knockouts take centre stage.

As the Premier League enters the business end, the month of March will be stacked with nothing but mouth-watering fixtures against the big clubs of England. The fixtures in March will be crucial to the Blues’ title defence as they host their Manchester rivals hoping to emulate their famous 6-3 win last season.

Before the team travels to Brighton, they’ll have to make a visit to Anfield and face Liverpool. The Liverpool game will be critical to City’s title ambitions and shaping the 2023/24 Premier League standings. The last game in March will be a master vs pupil showdown as the club hosts Arsenal, who were the Sky Blues’ biggest title contenders last season.  The Blues host Aston Villa in April, followed by a visit to Crystal Palace before hosting newly promoted Luton Town. The away game at Spurs may be the last hurdle to the club’s Premier League title ambitions.

The club welcomes Wolverhampton Wanderers with high spirits in the month of May, where they hope to get payback for the loss in September before the season closes out with a home game against West Ham United.

The home crowd at the Etihad Stadium will need to be electric throughout the season if the Blues are to successfully defend their Premier League and Champions League titles. The club needs its 12th player to keep playing beautiful football and reach new heights. QNET will also be part of the 12th man, supporting the club and being in their corner throughout the season. QNET’s enduring partnership represents a true synergy, aimed at creating a long-term impact. enjoyed remarkable success through this collaboration since 2014.
