In the last decade, the incidence of cancer among children globally has increased significantly. India has approximately 40,000 to 50,000 new cases of childhood cancer every year. Cancer has become the ninth common cause of death among children between the ages of 5 and 14 years in the country.

But this harsh reality can be changed. QNET India is working with Lions Club in creating awareness around the disease.

On 24 November, QNET India in association with Lions Club organised a walkathon, Walk of Life, to create more awareness about childhood cancer. Walk of Life saw participation from thousands of students from 10 different schools in Bengaluru. The event was inaugurated by Mr. K. Sathyanarayana Raju, PMJF District Governor, Lions Club Dist. 317F. from Maxwell Public School.

“Childhood cancer is increasing in India but it can be cured if detected early. Through this event, we aim to increases awareness about this disease that is affecting thousands of children and their families in India. I want to thank QNET for their active partnership in all our social awareness programmes. With the Lions Club tagline of ‘We Serve’ when we add QNET’s tagline ‘We Care’, we arrive at ‘We Serve, We Care’,” said Raju.

Paving the way for awareness about a deadly disease one step at a time.

Post the walkathon, doctors conducted a workshop to bust some of the common misconceptions and myths about cancer. Through facts and figures, the doctors shared crucial information with the attendees, such as in the cases where cancer is diagnosed early, during stages I/II, there is good prognosis with an 80% cure rate.

Thousands of innocent lives can be saved each year if people become more aware about the cancer. At QNET India, we want to shine the spotlight on more such social awareness initiatives and work towards creating a healthier and happier tomorrow.
