Here are some facts to raise awareness.

1. According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), 61.3 million people in India had diabetes in 2011. That figure is projected to rise to 101.2 million by 2030. Around 77.2 million people in India are said to have pre-diabetes currently. Unfortunately, India is ranked second in the world in diabetes prevalence, just behind China.

2. Diabetes is the ninth leading cause of death in women globally, according to the IDF.

3.Up to 70% of cases of Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented simply by adopting a healthy lifestyle. Modern lifestyle fueled by technology and fast food has led to decreased physical activity, increased consumption of fat, sugar and calories, and higher stress levels, affecting insulin sensitivity and obesity.

4. Medical health experts assert that regular check-ups and timely detection plays a vital role in controlling and managing the problem. People with diabetes can live long healthy lives when their diabetes is detected and well managed.

5. Indians get diabetes on average 10 years earlier than their Western counterparts. The risk for coronary artery disease (CAD) is two to four times higher in diabetic subjects, and in Indians, CAD occurs prematurely, i.e., one to two decades earlier than in the West.

6. The annual cost for India due to diabetes was about $38 billion in 2011. According to the WHO, if one adult in a low-income family has diabetes, “as much as 25% of family income may be devoted to diabetes care.”

7. Diabetes affects people both in urban and rural India, though the impact on urban India is higher.

8. Diabetes can lead to complications in other parts of the body and has been known to cause of blindness, leg amputation due to non-healing foot ulcers, and kidney failure.

If you are above the age of 30, have a family history of diabetes, struggle with obesity, chronic fatigue or other symptoms of type 2 Diabetes, please undergo a medical check-up once every year for early and timely detection of the disease.

If you are already taking medication for Diabetes, do look into QNet’s Nutriplus DiabaHealth Ayurvedic supplement. DiabaHealth is a 100% natural product formulated with a combination of different herb and plant extracts that have been proven in Ayurveda to be effective in blood sugar management.
