QNET Joins hands with Our Children Trust

QNET has partnered with Our Children Trust in Mumbai to present the annual Children’s Meet, a showcase of talent by underprivileged children in the city.

The Children’s Meet, which first took place in 1982, was conceptualized as an event to provide orphaned and underprivileged children from various NGOs in Mumbai with a platform to perform in front of a large audience, where they get to display their talent and achieve recognition. The aim of the event is to help these children develop self-confidence, learn teamwork, improve their physical and mental fitness and get comfortable in their own skin.

Each year the Trust introduces the children to different national and international dance forms by giving them a different theme, two months before the event. This year 400 child artistes from 21 NGOs presented a beautifully choreographed show of fables and stories to an audience of approximately 2500 children, prominent corporate leaders and other supporters of the Trust at the Shree Shanmukhananda Hall.

Children from Seva Sadan Society in Gamdevi who performed “The Legend of Krishna” bagged the top prize out of 21 participating NGOs. During this event, students also demonstrated their painting skills.

Children make up one-third of India’s population, which at 400 million is the world’s largest child population. Statistics show that less than half of India’s children between the age 6 and 14 go to school. Limited economic means prevent many children from getting an education, or an opportunity to enjoy a regular childhood.

Our Children Trust in Mumbai works with more than 40 child welfare institutions to help children from low-income families and underprivileged backgrounds to not just get an education, but also develop the necessary skills for a promising future. The Trust’s mantra is to allow every child to enjoy a childhood by providing them with basic necessities, and imparting a holistic education and life skills to help them become productive members of society.
