Manchester City kicked off the new season by defeating their biggest rivals, Manchester United on penalties to win the FA Community Shield. The historic 4-In-A-Row champions even started their Premier League title defence with a 2-0 win over the dangerous Chelsea at their home ground.
Bagging silverware and beating two of their biggest rivals in the process, Man City’s season was off to the perfect start. City would go on to win their next 3 matches, making it 5 wins out of 5 games – it was business as usual for a team that had set their own standards incredibly high.
Pushing Through Testing Times
City dominated Arsenal in their early season game with 78% possession and 33 attempts on goal. Yet, it wasn’t until the last kick of the game that John Stones equalised for the Cityzens, ending the game in a 2-2 draw. But the worst outcome of this game was losing their midfield backbone, Rodri, for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
This injury comes just days after the Spanish midfielder spoke about the excessive workload for footballers in recent times, with many having to play over 50-60 games in a single season.

However, even while injured, Rodri couldn’t help but make the club proud by becoming the first player in Man City history to win the Ballon d’Or. It is a well-deserved honour for the Spaniard who won trophies with both club and country. He has been a symbol of consistency and leadership, never failing to show up when they needed him.

Although City are just one place off top spot in the league, there’s no denying that they haven’t been as dominant or consistent as they usually are. Sure, there have been a few shock results in the Champions League and a couple of losses to Tottenham, but winning and losing is a part of football.

Our pursuit of success and Manchester City’s winning spirit go hand-in-hand. That’s why we know the comeback is inevitable.
Time for a Winter Comeback!
Even with Liverpool’s 8-point lead over City, the season is far from over; we’re only 12 games in. The run of games in December is the real test to see what champions are made of.
And as fate would have it, the first team to beat is none other than league leaders, Liverpool, who are in red-hot form after a win over Real Madrid. It’s the first and most crucial game in this run of fixtures and if the Cityzens win, they close the gap on top spot.
The next big test will come at the hands of Italian giants, Juventus, in the Champions League. And just a couple of days later, Man City welcome noise neighbours, Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium for a Manchester Derby that always promises a show. Boxing day will see a showdown against Everton before Man City close the curtains on 2024 with a visit to newly promoted Leicester City.
The games against PSG and Chelsea will also test the team’s character. Either way, Manchester City will always come back.
